Hymns I’m Angry I Didn’t Learn As a Child (4)

One Day by J. Wilbur Chapman

One day when Heaven was filled with His praises,
One day when sin was as black as could be,
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin,
Dwelt among men, my Example is He!

Chorus:
Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me;
Buried, He carried my sins far away;
Rising, He justified freely forever;
One day He’s coming-O glorious day!

One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain,
One day they nailed Him to die on the tree;
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected:
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He!

Chorus

One day they left Him alone in the garden,
One day He rested, from suffering free;
Angels came down o’er His tomb to keep vigil;
Hope of the hopeless, my Savior is He!

Chorus

One day the grave could conceal Him no longer,
One day the stone rolled away from the door;
Then He arose, over death He had conquered;
Now is ascended, my Lord evermore!

Chorus

One day the trumpet will sound for His coming,
One day the skies with His glories will shine;
Wonderful day, my belovèd ones bringing;
Glorious Savior, this Jesus is mine!

Chorus

  1. This old hymn tells it all, the whole story of Who Christ is and why He came to earth…and what we have to look forward to ” A Glorious Day”…when he comes back for His Church.

    Todd Agnew has released this song titled “Glorious Day”. I just heard it on my way to work today and realized that it was this old hymn we used to sing in church. Unfortunately so many churches have gotten away from the old hymns today that our youth are missing some beautiful songs that give the whole story of Christ, the true doctrine and theology of Christianity. I love all music, contemporary, sacred, and gospel, etc., but when I want to get back to my “roots”, my heart reverts to the old hymns and I can sing them over and over again with a sense of peace and comfort that takes me back to my childhood faith that I learned first with my Mom and Dad every Sunday, and then later as a young mother myself with my own children. It is a good heritage…I’m happy to hear a contemporary artist like Todd Agnew bringing back the songs with true depth.

    I just happened to find your message because I was looking online to see if I could find out the author of “One Day”. Anyway…pass these songs on to your children along with all the new choruses, etc. They will give comfort in their days away from home!

    From: “Pam”, an “old” lady probably to you.
